“Kaiju No. 8” unfolds in a world where humanity faces constant threats from gigantic monsters known as kaijus. The story centers on Kafka Hibino, a likable but relatively ordinary worker in the Japan Defense Force’s Kaiju Cleanup Crew. Kafka harbors a lifelong dream of becoming a member of the Defense Force’s combat unit, but his physical limitations hinder his aspirations.

However, an unexpected turn of events changes Kafka’s life forever when he encounters a terrifying kaiju. During the chaos, Kafka inadvertently becomes infected by the kaiju and gains the ability to transform into a humanoid kaiju hybrid known as Kaiju No. 8. Surprisingly, Kafka finds himself with enhanced strength and agility, becoming a powerful force capable of combating kaijus.
